Pallet racking, cantilever, bay, picking… all shop fitting and warehouse storage terms, explained simply.
There are many racking systems; a study of your needs determines the best fit. As a general rule: pallets in a warehouse → pallet racking; heavy or bulky loads → cantilever; manual handling in a workshop → medium-duty shelving; small parts → light-duty shelving; multi-level storage → platform, mezzanine or walkway; specific needs → gravity flow, push-back, drive-in or pallet shuttle.
High-rise racking served by forklifts for goods retrieval. It consists of upright frames, beams and safety accessories: wire mesh panels, gratings, upright guards and side protections. It provides direct access to every pallet and adapts to any load type. For outdoor use, hot-dip galvanized components (Sendzimir process) withstand the weather, and a galvanized sheet roof can be added.

Each level works independently and can hold different SKUs; the forklift never enters the lane. In double-access mode (FIFO, first in – first out), stock rotation is guaranteed — ideal for perishables; single-access installations work as LIFO.
Discover the solutionA LIFO system: the last pallet loaded is the first available at the front. When loading, the new pallet pushes the previous ones backwards on roller carts; when unloading, the next pallet automatically returns to the front. The forklift driver never enters the racking.
Discover the solutionForklifts drive into storage lanes where pallets rest on rails; each lane usually holds a single SKU. It is the most space-efficient system, widely used in cold rooms. Beyond 5 pallets deep, guide rails are recommended, and pallets must be in excellent condition.
Discover the solutionA motorized shuttle runs on rails inside the lanes: the forklift driver places the pallet at the level entrance and controls movements by remote. The result: time savings, more SKUs than drive-in storage, fewer accidents and less racking damage. Works in LIFO or FIFO (loading on one side, unloading on the other), widely used in food and pharmaceutical industries.
