How is an industrial mezzanine sized?
The design office cross-checks the upper-floor use, goods, available height and slab capacity:
- Storage, archives, cartons or workshop: define the design load from the actual goods and equipment planned
- Picking shelving: study density, shelf loads, walkways and replenishment before selecting the floor
- Pallets, machinery or concentrated loads: require a specific study of bearing points and load transferred to the slab
- Clear height: survey the building, services, access and clearances, then check feasibility against applicable requirements
- Access and fall prevention: plan stairs, guardrails, kick plates, pallet safety gates or hatches for the flows; exact references must be confirmed
