Regulatory and ergonomic constraints in DIY stores
Fitting out a DIY superstore or hardware shop means balancing product density, racking safety and shopping comfort. Four points structure the layout:
Reachable picking height
Self-service products are ideally placed between 0.60 m and 1.80 m from the floor. Upper levels above 2 m act as visible reserve stock and are handled with safe access equipment, in line with INRS ergonomic recommendations.
Heavy loads and load notices
Metal racking must display its maximum permissible load per level and per bay (INRS guide ED 771). Our heavy-duty racks are sized to the stored products and delivered with their load signage.
Customer circulation and accessibility
A DIY store is a public-access building: main aisles stay clear, with a recommended width of 1.40 m so trolleys can pass and accessibility requirements are met (French law of 11 February 2005).
