How is an industrial mezzanine or storage platform sized?
The design office must start from the site and intended operation rather than applying a generic floor load:
- Survey building dimensions, clear height, obstructions, services, doors and escape routes
- List distributed and point loads: goods, shelving, machinery, people and handling equipment
- Check the slab, foundations, anchors and possible column positions
- Define flows for stairs, pedestrians, pallet transfer, conveyors and replenishment
- Approve fire safety, accessibility and any planning formalities before manufacture
