Frequently asked questions

What is picking shelving?

Picking shelving is metal shelving designed for manual order preparation: items are picked by unit or parcel at operator height. It complements pallet racking for fast-moving SKUs.

What load per level does picking shelving carry?

Kollirama picking shelving carries 100 to 500 kg per level depending on the range (light or medium duty) and shelf depth. Levels adjust tool-free in 25 mm steps.

Can picking be built on several levels with walkways?

Yes, picking can be built on 2 or 3 levels with walkways and stairs to multiply preparation area without extending the building. Kollirama provides the full structural study.

Manual or mechanised picking: how to choose?

Up to around 500 order lines per day, manual picking on shelving remains the most flexible and economical. Beyond that, conveyors and carton flow pay off; Kollirama runs the flow study to decide.

How much does picking shelving cost?

As a guide, €60 to €250 excl. VAT per supplied bay depending on range (light or medium duty), dimensions and accessories, excluding installation. Free quote by Kollirama.

What are the components of medium-duty shelving?

Medium-duty shelving consists of upright frames, beams and decking in chipboard, melamine or steel shelves, reinforced with cross-bars if needed. Levels adjust in 50 mm increments to match the height of your products.

When should I choose medium-duty shelving over pallet racking?

Whenever loading and unloading are done by hand, without a forklift: medium-duty shelving is ideal for storing bulky loads at working height, in a workshop or stockroom. For pallets handled by forklift, pallet racking remains the right solution.
