How to size a retention tray?
The mandatory retention volume is calculated from the containers stored:
- General rule: retain at least 100% of the largest container’s volume, or 50% of the total stored volume
- Choose the material to match the product: steel for hydrocarbons and oils, HDPE for acids, bases and corrosives
- Add a removable grating to stand drums on and make cleaning easier
- Combine retention with racking: under-rack trays and retention decking built into pallet racking
